According to Velozzi, the cars will operate on 100% battery power in zero-emissions mode for a range of up to 200 miles. Then, when the batteries reach a pre-determined state of discharge, the Capstone microturbine will recharge the batteries on the fly to extend the driving range up to 1,000 miles.

For the past eight months, Balqon and POLA have been jointly testing two yard tractors fitted with Balqon’s next generation lithium battery system at a local intermodal facility. The Nautilus XR E20 is a longer-range version of the XE20, allowing customers to perform two shift operations before having to recharge.
