BMW eDrive Zones trigger an automatic shift to all-electric operating mode as soon as the vehicle enters a designated area, such as a low emission zone. Every electrically driven kilometer counts, and within an eDrive Zone, twice as many points can be collected. Switching to the purely electric driving mode is automatic.

The all-electric Volvo C40 Recharge is available online via volvocars.com in select markets across Europe as of this week. The propulsion system consists of twin electric motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle, powered by a 78 kWh battery that can be fast-charged to 80% in about 40 minutes.

Polestar, Volvo Cars’ new electric performance brand, introduced the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. Two electric motors drive the rear wheels. Volvo Car Group (Volvo Cars) is ramping up production of the V60 Plug-in Hybrid ( earlier post ) by 90% to meet demand, especially in Holland, Belgium and Italy. All in all, Volvo Cars will produce 7,600 plug-in hybrids in 2013, with a 2014 target of 10,000 units.
