The European Environment Agency (EEA) has published its provisional data about the CO 2 emissions of newly registered passenger cars and vans in Europe in 2020. For cars, the data show a 12% decrease in average cO 2 emissions, compared with 2019. g (12%) lower than in 2019 and represented the first decrease observed since 2016.

CO 2 emissions from private jets in Europe increased by nearly a third (31%) between 2005 and 2019, rising faster than commercial aviation emissions, according to a new report from environmental campaign group Transport & Environment (T&E). And yet, super-rich super polluters are flying around like there’s no climate crisis.

The strategy is centred around two main technology routes, as introduced in the first ArcelorMittal Europe climate action report published earlier this year: The use of hydrogen in DRI-EAF (Direct Reduced Iron - Electric Arc Furnace) and, also, the blast furnace. The expansion of its Smart Carbon route, also utilizing hydrogen.

The analysis, published in Nature Climate Change , was conducted by researchers from the University of East Anglia, Stanford University, the CICERO Center for International Climate Research and CSIRO as part of the Global Carbon Project. Estimates were then compared against daily emissions data from the same period in 2019.

The European Commission had put forward a proposal to revise the EU system for monitoring, reporting and verifying CO 2 emissions from maritime transport (the “EU MRV Regulation”) and to bring it in line with new obligations under International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to monitor emissions from 2019 and report in 2020.

Tesla will have a new addition to its CO2 pool in Jaguar Land Rover, which will help the latter company avoid hefty fines for not reaching target emissions goals set by the European Union. Jaguar Land Rover failed to meet EU CO2 goals last year, which set the company back around £35 million in fines. China, and Europe, the report said.
