The system was built using batteries reclaimed from electrified vehicles (HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV) and is connected to the consumer electrical power grid. JERA and Toyota began discussions in 2018 to establish battery reuse technologies, which eventually led to this large-capacity, grid-connected Sweep Energy Storage System.

Although the powertrains remain the same, the new Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid feature a comprehensive exterior and interior redesign, safety, suspension and new and improved infotainment and connectivity features.

They warn that even with increasingly tighter cyber defenses, the amount of data breached has soared in the past four years, but objects becoming hackable can convert the rising cyber threat into a potential physical menace. Not all cars on the road would have to be connected—just enough for hackers to stall 20% of all cars on the road.

The first ferry is schedueled for delivery in May 2018. Odin’s Eye is a DC grid solution which allows for the use of variable speed generator sets. We have always believed in DC Grid solutions, they work, they save fuel use and have lower emissions. All three ferries will be capable of all-electric operation with fast charging.

The GA contains a grid-connected Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter, followed by a DC-AC inverter, a filter and impedance matching network (IMN) connected to the GA coil. Over the next year (2018), the systems will be tested—including in-vehicle field testing—for a final validation. 11(1):2018.

This will be the world’s fastest flash-charging connection technology taking less than 1 second to connect the bus to the charging point. As this current is up to 10 times less than would be the case without storage, the connection can be made with a cheaper and more readily available low-power supply.
