Lexus is pricing the new 2018 RX 450hL three-row hybrid SUV—announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2017—with a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $50,620—$1,550 more than its gasoline-engined RX 350L AWD three-rowed sibling.

Lexus unveiled the 2018 Lexus LS 500h, the full hybrid version of its new flagship sedan, in Geneva. The model follows on the world premiere of the twin-turbo gas V6-powered LS 500 at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. Following the world premiere of the V8-powered LC 500 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January 2016, Lexus introduced its hybrid variant, the new LC 500h. Toyota intends to deploy these new powertrain units in a rapidly broadening range of vehicle models, starting in 2017. The new powertrain units provide approximately 10% better power performance (in terms of the time needed for a gasoline-powered vehicle to accelerate from 0-60 mph and for a hybrid vehicle to accelerate from 25-43.5

Battery-gasoline hybrids go back more than 20 years to the first Toyota Prius, but real mainstream battery-only electric EVs are only in their second decade. These European designs are perfectly good EVs, although their limited battery range and high price compared to the gasoline versions are major drawbacks. Lexus did the trick.
