Opel has begun testing two development cars (mules) of the Ampera extended-range electric vehicle (E-REV) ( earlier post ) at its Dudenhofen proving ground, keeping the four-seater on schedule for a late 2011 production date. A 16 kWh Li-ion battery pack provides all-electric range of up to 60 km/37 miles (MVEG).

The Model S will carry an initial price of $57,400; applying the new $7,500 Federal tax credit for plug-ins will drop the effective price to $49,900. Production is slated to begin in 2011, assuming the funding for the plant is in place. Tesla says that rapid charging will recharge the battery pack in 45 minutes. to 6 seconds.

The Ampera goes on sale in Europe in 2011, the Spark in early 2010. Equipped with a 16 kWh Li-ion battery pack, the five-door, four-seat hatchback has a battery-powered range of up to 60 km (37 miles) (MVEG cycle). More than 220 lithium-ion cells in the T-shaped pack provide power. Recharging uses a standard 230V outlet.

Considering how much GM plugs we do 80% of our driving in the city, those highway miles dont get much use. The car is expected to cost around $40,000.
