IHS Markit analysis finds that US gasoline demand could fall by as much as 4.1 The four-week average US gasoline demand for the week ending 6 March 2020 was 9.1 million units.

Overall, total light vehicle sales in California in the first half of 2020 were 786,219 units, down 26.9% from sales in the same period in 2019 primarily as the result of weakened sales in the second quarter. Although BEV sales dropped from 52,087 in H1 2019 to 45,601 units in H1 2020, BEV market share rose from 4.9% in H1 2020.

In 2009, the ARB approved the LCFS regulation to reduce the carbon intensity (CI) of transportation fuel used in California by at least 10% by 2020 from a 2010 baseline. The LCFS sets annual carbon intensity standards—which reduce over time—for gasoline, diesel, and the fuels that replace them.

The technically recoverable unproved shale gas resource is 827 trillion cubic feet (as of 1 January 2009) in the AEO2011 Reference case, 474 trillion cubic feet larger than in the AEO2010 Reference case, reflecting additional information that has become available with more drilling activity in new and existing shale plays.
