The Royal Netherlands Air Force concluded a test flight of a Boeing AH-64D Apache helicopter powered by a 50% blend of renewable jet fuel produced by UOP, a Honeywell company. Neste Oil has successfully started up Europe’s largest renewable diesel plant in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Production of NExBTL renewable diesel at the new plant—the company’s fourth—will be ramped up on a phased basis. The plant was completed on-schedule and on-budget.

Neste Oil celebrated the grand opening of its NExBTL renewable diesel refinery in the Port of Rotterdam. The refinery has an annual production capacity of 800,000 metric tons or 1 billion liters (264 million gallons US) of renewable diesel and cost around €670 million (US$873 million) to build.

In addition to high oil prices and the financial crisis, the increased use of new renewable energy sources, such as biofuels for road transport and wind energy for electricity generation, had a noticeable and mitigating impact on CO 2 emissions. Biofuels and other renewable energy sources start impacting CO 2 trends.

In 2015, the EU greenhouse gas emissions increased only slightly, despite the strongest annual economic growth (+ 2.2%) in the EU since 2007 and following a 4% decrease in emissions in 2014. Spain, Italy and the Netherlands accounted for the largest increases in greenhouse gas emissions in the EU.
