PowerCell Sweden AB has signed a memorandum of understanding with ABB Power Grids regarding a collaboration around fuel cell based zero emissions stationary power solutions. The MoU with ABB Power Grids is an important step and a great contribution to our increased efforts within the stationary segment.

Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a division of Nel ASA, has received a purchase order for a 20MW alkaline water electrolyzer from Ovako , a leading European manufacturer of engineering steel. The electrolyzer will be installed at Ovako’s existing plant in Hofors, Sweden. An investment that also got the support from the Swedish Energy Agency.

Volvo Cars, A-hus and Vattenfall recently launched the six-month One Tonne Life project—an attempt by a family (the Lindells) to cut their carbon dioxide yearly emissions from seven tonnes per person to a more sustainable one tonne. Volvo has provided a C30 Electric ( earlier post ) for use in the project.

Nikola sells both of these, but the problem with hydrogen is that the electrical grid is already built out, and there’s relative ease to add new chargers, whereas hydrogen fueling stations are a more involved effort. Hydrogen could theoretically be generated by electrolysis of water, powered by clean energy.
