Toyota Motor Corporation has developed a new series of fuel-efficient gasoline engines that achieve improved thermal efficiency. In developing the new engines, Toyota focused on four key areas: rapid combustion; a higher compression ratio; reduced pumping losses (e.g., Atkinson cycle engine can reach a thermal efficiency of 38%.

Having enough electric charge to last a 5-15 minute in silence in a traffic jam. Power steering is electric and as a result we don’t need to check the power steering oil level as there isn’t any. During reversing, the Prius is powered only by the electric motor. The gasoline engine only runs in reversing to power the batteries.

A US-wide county-level study comparing lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from several light-duty passenger gasoline and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) has found that PEVs can have larger or smaller carbon footprints than gasoline vehicles depending on regional factors and the specific vehicle models being compared.

Proponents believe such a car could be easily refuelled with hydrogen and assumed it would have greater range than a pure all-electric car. Little seems developed in any wide commercial sense and certainly not to the extent of the pure electric car. It is important to realize that a fuel cell car is actually an electric car.
