Lexus announced the world premiere of the all-new NX, the first model of Lexus’ next-generation range. Under the “Lexus Electrified” initiative, the new NX accelerates the proliferation of electrified models by being Lexus’ first Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV); the NX is also offered as a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).

Lexus announced that the luxury brand eclipsed the milestone of 2 million global sales of electrified vehicles—hybrids and battery-electric—at the end of April 2021. In 2020, 33% of the Lexus models sold globally were of the electrified variety.

Toyota Motor Europe reported 2019 sales of 1,089,422 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, an increase of +5.2% With more than 550,000 hybrid electric vehicles sold, representing 52% of the total mix, Toyota and Lexus offers a total of 20 hybrid models, the widest range of full hybrid electric vehicles in the industry.

Lexus adds a sporty touch to its hybrid hero. The EPA rates fuel economy for the 2022 Lexus ES 300h at 43 mpg city/44 highway/44 combined mpg.

Lexus easily could have merely updated the RX midsize SUV, seeing as RX owners continue returning to this model year after year. But more of the same was not the approach taken by Lexus, as it tries to keep the loyalists happy while reaching out to a new and much younger buyer. Lexus is taking some chances with its top seller.
