If there was ever a car on the road fitting the bill as future, it is the 2024 Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV). This is impressive as there are only 55 operating hydrogen fuel stations in the state and the availability of hydrogen is sometimes spotty. Exclusively available in California, Toyota sold 2,737 Mirais in 2023.

Mercedes also said that it managed to drive from Las Vegas to Long Beach, a 275-mile trip (albeit mildly downhill), on a single charge. In terms of value, the base price of the eSprinter is significantly higher than the diesel version (about $15k), which is offset by much lower fuel costs and presumably less maintenance cost.
