BMW Group and Vattenfall Europe have begun a second phase of the Mini E test fleet in Berlin, with the transfer of 70 MINI E electric vehicles to private customers (30 units) and fleet users (40 units). The MINI E were charged mainly at night, using certified green electricity from Vattenfall.

The MINI E. As the second half of the twelve-month MINI E field trial begins in the UK this week, BMW has released an overview of the outcome of interviews and objective data collected from the first three months of the December to June 2010 phase of the trial. The MINI E is a two-seat development of the MINI Hatch.

In 2011, batteries which were previously used in the MINI E test fleet were successfully implemented in a stationary project. Together with the Federal Ministry of transport in Berlin, the project demonstrated that an energy positive home environment with a battery system is possible. BMW i 360° Electric.

Ongoing field tests involving more than 600 MINI E cars, including 450 in the US, have already provided knowledge about the demands on future electrically powered production vehicles. A fleet of more than 1000 BMW ActiveE vehicles will provide further valuable insights into the everyday use of the vehicle.

The #2 US automaker has made a few plug-in hybrid Escape Hybrids that have been in a test fleet at Southern California Edison for about 18 months. As with the BMW MINI E , what is stunning, if not surprising, is how quickly a decent fully electric vehicle can be put on the road. We were modeling $12 a gallon.

With support from Scottish and Southern Energy, a fleet of prototype Ford Focus BEVs will be used by both the energy company and evaluation drivers based in Hillingdon, Middlesex.
