Gevo announced a new fuel sales agreement with American Airlines for the sale of 100 million gallons per year of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for five years from Gevo’s future commercial operations. Gevo’s delivery of SAF under this agreement is expected to begin in 2026. Gevo estimates that the agreement should generate approximately $2.75 billion of revenue over the five-year term, inclusive of the value of environmental benefits.

Samsung SDI to invest US$1.3B in second battery production facility in Malaysia

Samsung SDI broke ground on a second battery production facility in Seremban, Malaysi. With a total of 1.7 trillion won (US$1.3 billion) investment phase-by-phase until completion in 2025, Plant 2 at Samsung SDI Energy Malaysia (SDIEM) will start mass-production of PRiMX 21700 cylindrical batteries (21mm X 70 mm) in 2024. Samsung SDI’s decision to construct the second factory in Malaysia comes as a strategy to meet the rising demand for cylindrical batteries recently.

EVE Energy, a major battery maker in China; Zijin Lithium, a subsidiary of Longyan-based Zijin Mining Group; and Ruifu Lithium, a developer of lithium salts based in eastern China’s Shandong province; will establish a joint venture company in Hunan and invest in the construction of a project with an annual output of 90,000 tons of lithium salt in installments. The total investment in the project is expected to be 3 billion yuan (US$443 million).
