A new study carried out by University College Dublin (UCD) academics has found that under typical Irish commuting conditions, the Toyota Prius IV (fourth-generation) hybrid ( earlier post ) drives in zero emissions mode (ZEV) for significantly more than half (62%) of the time and more than 40% (40.4%) of the distance covered.

Toyota Europe is piloting a new full hybrid car sharing program—named YUKÕ – Japanese for ‘Let’s go’—in two European cities: Dublin, Ireland and Forlì, Italy. Hybrid buses typically deliver around a 30% fuel efficiency saving and around 20% reductions in NO x emissions. The buses also deliver better than twice the fuel economy of a standard diesel bus. The introduction of the 600 buses will reduce CO 2 emissions in London by around 20,600 tonnes a year.
