The carbon capture process at the Scotford oil sands upgrader will capture about 35% of emissions. The CO 2 will be transported by an 84 km (52-mile), 12-inch (30.5 miles) underground into the deepest saline aquifer formation in Alberta (the Basal Cambrian Sands) beneath several layers of impermeable rock.
