In April, the company completed the diesel hydrotreater conversion, which will ramp up to 8,000 bbl/d (120 million gallons per year) of renewable diesel production by the third quarter of 2021. Hexana aims to implement a fast neutron and sodium-cooled reactor, integrating a high-temperature storage device. An adjoining conversion system will allow it to produce electricity as needed and flexibly to compete with gas-fired power plants but also to supply heat directly to nearby energy-intensive industries.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and the California Energy Commission today unveiled a utility-scale sodium-sulfur battery energy storage system ( earlier post ) pilot project to better balance power needs of the electric grid. The system has a 4 megawatt capacity, and can store more than six hours of energy.
