Growth in oil use, particularly aviation, and coal use are behind most of the increase in 2022. During the Global Financial Crisis in 2008/9, the COVID19 pandemic, and now the Ukrainian War, economic stimulus packages were meant to put the world on a cleaner and greener path, but this is not at all evident in the CO 2 emissions data.

Other than the good news on oil consumption, very little was said in regards to transportation fuels. As another panelist pointed out, “ The New York Times is well-equipped to write the article about how Stimulus Funds have been wasted ”. By the time REFF West occurred in October 2008 the climate had changed dramatically.

As our planet’s atmosphere overheats because the greenhouse gas firewall we’ve built by burning fossil fuels works so damn well, there is one secret weapon we can all still whip out if we want to fight back and try to save ourselves from frying. Big Dick did all this while knowing full well the damage burning fossil fuels does.

And just like Woody, I’d like to sing you a song about a better way… My friends, with greenhouse gas emissions already in the danger zone, we needed to stop burning Killer Coal yesterday. Seems like a perfect use for some stimulus money, don’t it? 2007 USA electric energy fuel mix.
