Study finds methane emissions from coal mines ~50% higher than previously thought

The results have important implications for Earth’s climate because methane is about 25 times more powerful than carbon dioxide when it comes to warming the planet over a long period. The research team analyzed 250 coal samples from around the world, including North America, South America, Australia, Asia and Europe.
