Vianode study finds low emissions for graphite battery anode production – Charged EVs

Baua Electric

Norway-headquartered Vianode, a manufacturer of synthetic graphite for battery anodes, has released the results of a life cycle assessment (LCA) of its planned industrial-scale production. A typical EV battery pack contains around 70 kg of graphite, which represents up to 40% of battery cell emissions, based on average present-day production.

Researchers confirm existence of North Icelandic Jet current; implications for ocean response to climate change

Green Car Congress

An international team of researchers has confirmed the presence of a deep-reaching ocean circulation system off Iceland—the North Icelandic Jet (NIJ)—that could significantly influence the ocean’s response to climate change in previously unforeseen ways.

New polymer membrane efficiently removes carbon dioxide from mixed gases; high permeability and selectivity

Green Car Congress

A team of researchers from North Carolina State University, SINTEF in Norway and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, has developed a polymer membrane technology that removes carbon dioxide from mixed gases with both high permeability and high selectivity. This is a vital part of the green transition in Norway.

Study indicates warming Arctic is remobilizing persistent organic pollutants into the atmosphere

Green Car Congress

A new study by researchers from Canada, Norway and China indicates that warming in the Arctic is revolatilizing persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that have accumulated in sinks such as water and ice. Their paper appears in the journal Nature Climate Change. Nature Climate Change doi: 10.1038/nclimate1167.

NTNU study finds ships’ and spare parts’ contribution to offshore wind power lifecycle impacts has been underestimated

Green Car Congress

In the study, they developed and assessed life cycle inventories of a the proposed Havsul I offshore wind farm in Norway using a hybrid life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. Eutrophying emissions to freshwater stem in large part from disposal of tailings and spoil in connection with mineral resource extraction.

CICERO-led study finds global warming effect of leaked hydrogen almost 12x stronger than CO2

Green Car Congress

Unlike exhaust from burning coal and gas that contains CO 2 , burning hydrogen emits only water vapor and oxygen. Hydrogen is not a greenhouse gas, but its chemical reactions in the atmosphere affect greenhouse gases such as methane, ozone, and stratospheric water vapor. —Dr Sand Resources Sand, M., Sand et al.
