GM will build the Cadillac ELR, a luxury coupe featuring extended-range electric technology, at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly, General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said Tuesday. Detroit-Hamtramck is home to the Chevrolet Volt, Opel Ampera, and Holden Volt extended-range electric vehicles.
During the serial media launch events for the Chevrolet Volt, GM provided more detail (subsequent to the completion of related patent work) on the novel drive architecture applied in their first extendedrange electric vehicle to enhance the efficiency of both the battery electric and extended-range driving modes.

The all-electric vehicle range of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt will increase by three miles from the 2012 model to be 38 miles on a single charge. The miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) fuel economy will increase from 94 miles to 98 miles and the total range, including extendedrange operation, will be 380 miles.

GM announced that the first buyers of the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended-range capability will be eligible for one of 4,400 free home charging stations. The Chevrolet Volt is an electric vehicle with extendedrange capability, designed to drive up to 350 miles without stopping to recharge or refuel.
On Friday, the fleet of Chevrolet Equinox fuel cell electric vehicles involved in GM’s Project Driveway—the largest consumer fuel cell vehicle demonstration project to date ( earlier post )—passed the 1-million mile mark.
