In case of power outage at home, the DC pins in the charger can send juice back into the house, keeping the lights on. A side benefit could be plugging in appliances to the car while camping rough.

All of this means a PHEV uses much less liquid fuel (as little as 10% of a conventional vehicle’s averaged annual fuel consumption), saving money and extending the miles per gallon of gasoline or alternative liquid fuel.
