Kia Niro EV review: It was only in 2021 that Kia introduced the Niro nameplate to Australia. The compact SUV sits under the EV6 from a pricing perspective. The second-generation Niro comes as a hybrid or an EV, the latter commanding a big price premium. But even as a hybrid the Niro doesn’t come particularly cheap.

Not as aesthetically successful (to this reviewer’s eyes) as the larger EQS, the EQE certainly looks like the bulk of its exterior design was done in Benz’s wind tunnel. Charge cable bags in the boot eat into space, and no frunk due to that sealed bonnet also give the competition a space advantage. What don’t you get?

The charge port door also electrically rises with a gentle tap, while the GV60 can self-park using the smartkey. There’s a household socket under the rear seats (I plugged the Nespresso machine in here), and another on the charge cable, ideal for things like an electric bike. A massive price difference versus a GV60.

This range-topping Kia EV9 GT-Line’s RRP is $121,000, then adds quite ridiculous $18,000 (in Queensland) on-road charges, pushing the bill to $139,000 drive-away. A mid-spec EV9 Earth is around $120,000 in the traffic, while the entry-level Air is a comparatively cheap $107,000. For you NSW lot, it’s $140,200.
