A Northwestern Engineering-led team has developed a highly porous smart sponge that selectively soaks up oil in water. With an ability to absorb more than 30 times its weight in oil, the sponge could be used to clean up oil spills inexpensively and efficiently without harming marine life. —Vikas Nandwana.

EVs are Better for the Environment Over the course of their lifetimes , EVs generate less than half of the GHG emissions of comparable gasoline-powered vehicles. Being an EV driver means no oil changes, no transmission fluids, and no radiators. Since EVs don’t use gasoline, they reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil.
