Ford has spent a lot of time touting the electrification of its venerable F-150. I found out a while back – and I came away impressed with the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. The Lightning won’t be the only EV truck performing this feat, so Ford doesn’t get special credit, but it’s a cool side benefit to electrification nonetheless.

No less an auto industry titan as Ford has also made bidirectional charging a selling point of their F-150 Lightning electric truck, reportedly slated to roll off the lines this year. In case of power outage at home, the DC pins in the charger can send juice back into the house, keeping the lights on. Not so independent.

I could write a screed like this just about every week -- it seems like we're constantly hearing about Tesla or one of Elon Musk's other companies cutting corners when it comes to safety, presumably in order to keep the stock price juiced. Indeed, the Reuters piece references safety problems at SpaceX.

Sure, you might buy a Wrangler only for the image and not for the utility – but you can’t say we didn’t warn you.
