VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) are beginning testing of the Soletair demo plant, which uses air-captured carbon dioxide to produce renewable fuels and chemicals. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis is used for hydrogen production. Phase 1: Renewable energy.

The catalyst first removes water from the ethanol (dehydration), leaving behind ethylene. LanzaTech is currently building its first commercial ethanol facilities using waste gases, including one in China with China’s largest steel company, Shougang, and one in Belgium with the world’s largest steel manufacturer, ArcelorMittal.

Siluria’s OCM technology is the first commercially viable process to directly convert natural gas to ethylene, a key building block for the global petrochemicals industry and a new basis from which to produce transportation fuels. The ethane subsequently undergoes dehydrogenation to form ethylene and water.
