Tesla has applied for a set of building permits regarding a previously unannounced “Lithium Lab,” which is likely an upcoming R&D facility. It’s no secret that Tesla has been diving head first into developing more dependable lithium supplies, even going as far as opening its own lithium refinery in Southern Texas.

Drew Baglino noted that Giga Texas already makes dry electrode batteries. Elon mentions a cathode refining facility just down the road from Giga Texas as well. Drew Baglino noted that there’s no large-scale cathode refining facility in the US for now, so Tesla had to build one. The vehicle was made in Giga Texas.
