More than two-thirds (68%) of lithium-ion battery production planned for Europe is at risk of being delayed, scaled down or cancelled, according to new analysis by the European NGO Transport & Environment. Battery production capacity equivalent to 18 million electric cars—1.2 Europe must act or risk losing it all.

Spain-based battery manufacturer Cegasa Group has started developing its first prototypes of lithium-ion batteries for electric cars. Cegasa has been manufacturing batteries for more than 75 years. Cegasa is currently making progress in the research and development stage of its first Li-ion prototypes.

Researchers in France and Spain have designed a nickel nitride material for use as an anode in Li-ion batteries that shows good reversible capacity. Ni 3 N ‘cast’ electrodes exhibited good rate capability, with 500 mAh g -1 reversible capacity maintained after 10 cycles at a rate of 1 Li per h. —Gillot et al.
