Volvo will make its first all-electric car in China; available in 2019, exported globally

Volvo Cars announced at Auto Shanghai that it will build its first fully electric car in China. The all-new model will be based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) for smaller cars, and will be available for sale in 2019 and exported globally from China, Volvo said.

Volvo Cars and Autoliv to create joint venture for next-gen autonomous driving software

Volvo Cars and Autoliv have signed a letter of intent to set up a new jointly-owned company to develop next-generation autonomous driving software. It has a medium-term vision that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020. Its management will comprise of representatives from Autoliv and Volvo Cars.

Uber launches self-driving pilot in San Francisco with Volvo Cars

Uber is expanding its self-driving pilot to San Francisco, California, using specially-converted self-driving Volvo XC90 premium SUVs. Volvo Cars and Uber are contributing a combined US$300 million to the project. Both Uber and Volvo will use the same base vehicle for the next stage of their own autonomous car strategies.

Volvo Cars and Autoliv announce the launch of Zenuity JV for AD and ADAS; first ADAS products in 2019

Volvo Cars, and Autoliv signed a final agreement to establish a new joint venture called Zenuity to develop software for autonomous driving (AD) and driver assistance systems (ADAS), based on the letter of intent announced during fall 2016.
