It has been a long wait for these cars to get to Australia but I suppose the silver lining in such delay is that all the bugs have been ironed out. It is breathtaking in acceleration despite it being the ‘slower’ version (we drove the Model 3 Standard Plus). This was my first time in the Model 3. Any downsides?

If Australia does legislate an internal combustion engine ban in 2035 Nissan says it will be ready to comply. The Japanese brand has been an EV pathfinder in Australia, introducing the Leaf battery electric vehicle in 2012. On-sale in Japan since late 2021, an arrival in Australia in 2023 isn’t even confirmed.

Mazda says it will be offering internal combustion engined models in Australia for years to come because it anticipates the transition to electric cars to be gradual. The Japanese manufacturer also insists the time is not yet right to launch an electric model into the premium SUV space despite the overwhelming success of the Tesla Model Y.

Suzuki has unveiled a new Heritage Edition of the Jimny in Australia and Suzuki will sell only 500 units of it. In Australia, the 5-door Jimny is called Jimny XL. Back in 2023, the manufacturer introduced Heritage Edition for the 3-door Jimny and it was limited to just 300 units. And it was sold out only in just two days.

The federal government has confirmed it will introduce a mandatory fuel emission standard to encourage the take-up of electric vehicles. Consultation on the fuel efficiency standard begins today (April 19) and the government will release its proposed design by the end of 2023. Apply on average to vehicles sold. Apply to light vehicles.

Australia-based Revetec is designing what it calls the Controlled Combustion Engine (CCE)—a cam-drive gasoline spark-ignited internal combustion engine that is smaller, lighter, cleaner, less expensive to manufacture and that produces higher torque due to higher mechanical transfer than equivalent conventional engines.
