Lucid Group announced today that it had reached an agreement with the Government of Saudi Arabia to purchase up to 100,000 electric vehicles from the automaker over ten years. The deal will start with an initial commitment of at least 50,000 vehicles with the option to purchase 50,000 additional cars over the same period.

Together, both companies are testing self-driving tractor trailers on a route in Arizona to determine whether the vehicles can improve service and efficiency in the UPS network. This is an extension of the ongoing commercial relationship between UPS and TuSimple in which UPS has purchased transportation services from TuSimple.

Waymo, the self-driving unit from Google parent company Alphabet, is set to expand its autonomous vehicle testing to include select freeways in Arizona. Waymo says that it also has years of testing experience with rider-only vehicle fleets, set to help inform its safety approach to the expansion.

The trucks will be deployed in Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Nevada, Ohio and Texas later this year. The smaller engine will improve fuel economy, however.
