In an effort to address growing traffic congestion and air quality concerns, UPS and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced the deployment of an innovative downtown delivery pilot project using pedal-assist cargo eBikes and customized, modular trailers. In Washington, UPS uses 10 electric and hybrid electric vehicles.

These projects put more than 9,000 alternative fuel and energy-efficient light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles on the road, and establish 542 refueling locations across the country. The project will deploy 502 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through 119 public and private fleets throughout the state.

This year’s expo was heavily focused on clean fleets. What originally started as a heavy-duty alternative fuels industry event has evolved into a broader clean fleet conference. Because of that, I attended a session titled “Local Governments Role in Decarbonizing On-road Vehicles.”
