The 100% renewable electricity mix in Chengdu is the result of a newly signed supply contract and will reduce the plant’s CO 2 emissions by more than 11,000 tonnes per year. Under the new contract, around 65% of the electricity supply comes from hydropower, while the remainder comes from solar power, wind power and other renewable sources.

Around 160,000 units of Audi’s first electric model have been delivered since 2018. Named “Factory of the Future” in 2020 by the employers’ association Agoria, Brussels achieved this distinction as early as 2018. The companies that supply the battery cells are obliged to use only renewable energy sources for production.

For example, by implementing rail transport it reduced CO 2 emissions by almost 75% on the route between its Ghent, Belgium-based manufacturing plant and a purpose-built depot in northern Italy. Already now, cars are transported from its China-based manufacturing plants to the Ghent port in Belgium by train two times a week.

By 2022, the new engineering plastics compounding plant will supply an additional capacity of 60,000 metric tons per year in China, bringing BASF’s total capacity of these products in Asia Pacific to 290,000 metric tons per year.

After about a year of intensive practical use by ten customers in Germany and Switzerland, eight of the purely battery-powered Mercedes-Benz eActros trucks are now successively going to new customers in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Lithium-ion batteries with 240 kWh supply the energy for the eActros.

Audi has announced that it will build its upcoming all-electric SUV in Belgium. The German carmaker says it will dedicate an existing plant in Brussels to the new electric model, which will start production in 2018.
