In November 2009, Capstone introduced a prototype range-extended electric supercar using one of its 30 kW C30 microturbines as the generator unit. Then, when the batteries reach a pre-determined state of discharge, the Capstone microturbine will recharge the batteries on the fly to extend the driving range up to 1,000 miles.

Jaguar has unveiled the C-X75 concept, an extended range electric vehicle that uses twin gas micro-turbines from Bladon Jets to power two switched reluctance generators from SR Drives. University students from The Ohio State University earned top honors at the 2009 finals of the EcoCAR : The NeXt Challenge competition in Toronto, Canada for their design of a Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). In the final year, teams must refine their vehicles to near-showroom quality.

This contract to upgrade six extended range yard tractors to POLA’s demonstration fleet will allow us to showcase our current technologies to local marine terminals, warehouses and rail yards. The Nautilus XR E20 is a longer-range version of the XE20, allowing customers to perform two shift operations before having to recharge.

GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, at a conference of the Society of Automotive Analysts on the eve of the North American International Auto Show, announced that GM will produce the Cadillac Converj extended-range electric vehicle. Cadillac included the Converj concept car at the 2009 North American International Auto Show.

The control strategy used was to operate on the electric drive when possible and to recharge the ultracapacitors when the engine was operating.this resulted in a large improvement in average engine efficiency from 19% in the ICE vehicle to 30% in the micro-hybrid even though the electric motor had a peak power of only 6 kW. Chevrolet Volts: extended range electric vehicles (EREVs). Public and workplace charging infra-structure enabled drivers to increase their electric driving range. Instead, the results suggest that charging infrastructure should be focused at homes, workplaces and public “hot spots” that serve multiple venues.
