Every once in a while, other media outlets will ask for advice from Green Car Reports on various fuel economy or car technology questions. We recently received one concerning a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, which the owner had left unused for several months.

Fuel-saving gasoline-electric hybrid cars don't save as much fuel as thought, according to new government fuel-economy ratings available to the public for the first time. The new ratings go into effect beginning with 2008 models, a few of which will soon be on sale.

While the XM1124 Humvee is already significantly more efficient than the conventional M1113 Humvee, boasting a higher top speed, faster acceleration, longer range and improved fuel economy, expectations are that the new, upgraded battery packs will increase the peak power capability of the current demonstration vehicles.

The bio-based polyurethane foam will be one of the new features in the new Ford Explorer—which will also deliver fuel economy at least 25% better than the current model—which goes in to production later this year.
