Netherlands-based battery manufacturer EST-Floattech will provide its Octopus Series battery systems to UK shipbuilder Wight Shipyard for installation on two vessels, Mars Clipper and Cross River Ferry. Both boats will use excess power from their biofuel engines to recharge the batteries for the central London stretch.

Fastned is a Dutch company installing fast charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) in Europe ( earlier post ). Fastned has built and is operating 63 fast charging EV stations in the Netherlands. This storage system will allow Fastned to deploy multiple high powered chargers per site while reducing the strain on the grid.

The Volvo C30 Electric will be manufactured and delivered to leasing customers throughout Europe, including in Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway. The batteries are installed where the fuel tank normally sits and also in a special compartment in the car’s central tunnel. A full recharge takes about 7 hours.
