Uruguay launches first BYD battery-electric buses; projecting 500 by 2015

in partnership with Chinese automaker BYD Ltd, introduced the first battery-electric 12-meter rapid transit bus in Uruguay and the region. The bus can be charged overnight, while the electricity pricing is lower. By 2015 it is expected that more than 500 BYD electric buses will be running on the streets and roads of Uruguay.

Incat Tasmania selects Wärtsilä solutions for battery-electric lightweight Ro-Pax ferry

Technology group Wärtsilä will power the biggest battery electric ship yet built with its battery-electric propulsion system and waterjets. It will also be the world’s first electric, lightweight catamaran. The vessel will operate between Argentina and Uruguay. The order with Wärtsilä was booked in July 2023.

Bogotá orders 379 electric buses from BYD

BYD will provide the Colombian capital of Bogotá with a fleet of 379 pure electric buses, in a deal awarded by the capital’s TransMilenio SA mass transport authority. This fleet will begin operations in September 2020, giving Bogotá the largest electric bus fleet on the continent and one of the largest in the world.

BYD lands contract for 35 electric buses at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

Williams Advanced Engineering wins award for the Formula E battery

Williams Advanced Engineering was awarded the prize for its work in creating the batteries that are currently powering the cars racing in Formula E, the world’s first fully electric racing series. The company also was awarded the Simms Medal for 2015 in October by the Royal Automobile Club for its work on the Formula E battery.

Pike forecasts 26.4% CAGR for electric-drive buses to 2018; hybrid, battery-electric and fuel cell

Pike Research forecasts that the global market for all electric-drive buses—including hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell buses—grow steadily over the next. The Latin American market will be driven largely by uptake in Brazil, but other countries will also spur adoption, notably Uruguay which recently indicated it.
