The sales growth was mainly led by the company’s fully electric cars. For the month of March, Volvo Cars sold 63,132 cars globally, up 8% compared with the same month last year. The share of fully electric cars (12,621 units) during the period ended up at 18%.

Fast-forward about 10 years and a new type of hybrid came on the scene—the plug-in hybrid, and it does require plugging in to charge the onboard battery to maximize efficiency (without plugging in it functions like a normal hybrid).

Volvo XC40 Recharge powertrain. The XC40 Recharge P8 is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos.
