Unlike ethanol, GVL will not form an azeotrope with water, thus eliminating the need for azeotropic distillation or molecular sieve methods in the final purification steps. The additive shifts the distillation curve for diesel fuel to lower temperatures, with most of the additive removed from the mixture by the 40% distillate volume fraction.
