UW Madison chemists discover new way to harness energy from ammonia

Green Car Congress

A research team at the University of Wisconsin–Madison has identified a new way to convert ammonia to nitrogen gas through a process that could be a step toward ammonia replacing carbon-based fuels. However, burning ammonia releases toxic nitrogen oxide gases. The new reaction avoids those toxic byproducts.

NIST Characterizes -valerolactone Blends in Gasoline and Diesel

Green Car Congress

Unlike ethanol, GVL will not form an azeotrope with water, thus eliminating the need for azeotropic distillation or molecular sieve methods in the final purification steps. Conversely to the effect on diesel fuel, the additive shifts the distillation curve of gasoline to higher temperatures. —Bruno et al.
