Far from a backyard Sawzall job, this conversion involves a semi-electric soft top, roll cage which conforms to FIA standards, snazzy new wheels, different upholstery (water resistant, perhaps), and the expected scattershot blast of badges and emblems.

Conversions are mostly for the Prius, with a few for the Ford Escape/Mercury Mariner hybrid SUVs. At that point, we expect the aftermarket companies prices to have come down sufficiently so that their conversions will be attractive to owners of hundreds of thousands of hybrids already on the road. So far, most start as hybrids.

Well that must make it tough competitive-wise because it seems like the majority of the installers I talk to DO carry the rebate for the customer up front. And do you wind up offering your customers some kind of assistance in filing the rebate form? You pay your taxes on-line. You pay your corporate taxes on-line.

75 + taxes. Then there was the Finance Minister, Toda mal, the brains behind the Jaziya tax. Unlike Bharatpur’s marriage palaces, this was actually the genuine stuff, an old palace converted into a hotel. We were the only customers - the service was amazing. Found enough customers at the dhaba.
