Eaton Corporation is collaborating with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) on a prototype integrated solar-assisted electric vehicle charging station to be erected at EPRI’s research laboratory in Knoxville, Tenn. All subsystems are linked by being grid-tied.

This research will also promote smart charging capabilities that can help ensure electric vehicles enhance, rather than strain, existing electrical grid capacity. The other two selected projects will focus on chargers used at commercial and public locations to charge large numbers of vehicles, including commercial fleets of delivery vehicles.

NSWC Crane and AeroVironment have developed a CRADA project with the BIC designed to develop and demonstrate a large grid array battery test and evaluation capability that will be used for evaluation of future microgrid technologies. In addition, the BIC has significant government partners including NSWC Crane and Argonne National Lab.
