The target is showcasing the train to a global audience attending the COP26 conference in Glasgow in November. Our Rail Decarbonization Action Plan sets out to make our passenger railways emissions free by 2035, but to maximise our climate change ambitions, there is also a requirement to look at what we do with retired stock.

According to the committee’s research, IEEE’s current structure, areas of interest, programs and services, and sources of funding are not likely to align well with the potential futures of the global environment. But, “the younger generation is interested in solving grand challenges such as climate change, and our papers don’t address them.”

The Exxon/Mobil refinery in Torrance and the Chevron refinery in El Segundo are both located in the South Bay and are each a big part of the carbon-based economy that causes the majority of climate change - although you’ll never get either of these corporations to admit this truth or take responsibility for it. It hardly seems fair.
