Mitsubishi does plug-in hybrids (like in the Outlander ), Toyota does conventional hybrids (like the RAV4 ), and Nissan does e-Power. It’s not actually as fuel efficient as a conventional hybrid (and, for now at least, it’s more expensive, too), but Nissan says it’s far more fun to drive. And that means it’s not cheap.

Late to the party on EV incentives and decent charging infrastructure, only in the past two years have EV sales really made a dent in the Australian market. Dedicated city cars with cheap-feeling cabins, but rarer than a Pagani Zonda on our shores. The range extender hybrid i3s are basically the same price.

Check out the new Nissan Leaf on video: You’ve got to love the fact that Nissan had balls and the vision to bank their future on full on electric vehicles, leapfrogging their Japanese competition Honda and Toyota whose timid and safe bet on hybrids has already marked them as bridge technology car makers. Really Ford? Are you kidding me?
