In 2018, Lyft started a carbon-offsets program to make rides on the Lyft platform carbon-neutral.

United Airlines announced a commercial agreement with Denver-based aerospace company Boom Supersonic to purchase 15 of Boom’s Overture supersonic airliners, once Overture meets United’s safety, operating and sustainability requirements, with an option for an additional 35 aircraft. Boom is working with Rolls-Royce on propulsion.

Within the overall trends there are differences between cities with more or less public transit; while personal income also impacts heating and industrial fuel use. Whereas Denver, having the highest per capita emissions for electricity, heating/industrial fuels, and ground transportation is, not surprisingly, the top emitter.

The global economic recession of 2008—which severely depressed light-duty vehicle sales—resulted in an increase in the age of the light-duty vehicle fleet in the US that likely slowed the rate of decrease of fleet average emissions, according to a study by Gary Bishop and Donald Stedman at the University of Denver.
