Gerhardt had joined with Ed Benjamin of the Light Electric Vehicle Association (LEVA) to offer training programs—and certification— to aspiring ebike mechanics. Ten years later, 11 TEVA of NC members, representing 1 out of every 10 people in the chapter, had followed Gerhardt into becoming Certified Light EV Technical instructors.

The drive to fleet electrification includes all classifications of vehicles, from passenger EVs and light commercial vehicles to municipal and school buses to medium- and heavy-duty trucks. Fleet operators have to purchase EVs, purchase, install and manage depot EV charging infrastructure, retrain drivers, and transition maintenance staff.

Laredo Bus Facility Solar Canopies: Provide shade structures with integrated, grid tied photovoltaic cells to be erected on the bus storage lot at the Laredo Bus Maintenance Facility. It would also fund stationary fuel cells to provide primary and emergency back-up power for the bus maintenance and storage facilities.
