Bright Automotive says it soon release an electric car with a 100 mile per gallon plus plug-in – and the company says it will keep the car economically priced. Bright Automotive, which spun out of the Rocky Mountain Institute in January, is building a plug-in hybrid vehicle that will get 100 miles a gallon (see Green Lightpost).

Well, America’s auto industry delivered over 100,000. That helped us become the world’s greatest industrial power. Over time, we can conserve by reducing the miles we drive. It helps that the auto industry will be building more efficient new vehicles. It’s a 21st-century equivalent of what we did in 1942.

Originally rated at 124 miles of range, in 2020 the model received a range boost to 170 miles, and it remains on sale. Now, Hyundai has rebooted its EV efforts with a new platform that will spawn a whole range of EVs offering 250 miles or more of rated range. This allows large battery packs to be charged at 250 to 350 kW.
