A coalition of 16 national hydrogen associations from around the world recently issued a joint statement addressed to Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change, asserting that hydrogen technologies could help to curb global greenhouse gas emissions.

The global merchant fleet currently consumes around 330 million tonnes of fuel annually, 80-85 per cent of which is residual fuel with high sulfur content.
