The Air Resources Board re-adopted a Low Carbon Fuel Standard ( LCFS ), which requires a 10% reduction by 2020 in the carbon intensity of transportation fuels. A low emission bus is defined as any transit bus that is powered by an engine that produces lower non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC) and NO x than are legally permitted under EPA’s engine standards. All transit buses proposed for deployment under the LoNo Program must complete current FTA bus testing for production transit buses.

Building on LCFS policies already adopted in Europe, British Columbia, and California, the researchers looked at potential costs and benefits of reducing the carbon intensity of transportation fuels by 10 to 15 percent by 2030. Set a target of reducing the carbon intensity of gasoline and diesel by 10 to 15 percent by 2030.
