The maximum range is about 275 miles per charge. Still, while cheaper, the base standard trim pairs its more attractive price tag with a smaller battery and only around 208 miles of range, which is quite respectable for an EV intended to be used around town and for the occasional family outing.

The two-door hatchback comes powered by a 118-hp electric motor for a 149-mile range – not amazing but good enough for most trips and daily use. The battery comes with DC charging at up to 85 kW, which adds enough juice for 31 extra miles of range in just five minutes, according to Fiat.

Now you can run it solely on electric power for up to 21 miles and plug it in to charge. The base price for my test unit was $58,595. If you can plug in often and afford the higher MSRP, the 4xe will make a lot of sense for you and it doesn’t take away any of the Wrangler Rubicon’s core strengths. You don’t need the 4xe.
